Five Stones of Medjugorje: Spiritual Weapons Against Evil

The Five Stones of Medjugorje Our Lady of Medjugorje, also named the Queen of Peace, is believed by many to have been appearing to a group of six individuals from a small mountain village in Bosnia-Hercegovina frequently since they were children in 1981. The group claims that Mary is visiting them so that they may warn the world that Satan is real and wicked and that we must pray for peace and conversion. Just as the Lord gave David five stones to defeat the giant Goliath, in these apparitions, the Queen of Peace gives us five stones to defeat Satan and overcome his evil doings. These powerful weapons are: Daily Prayer, Fasting, Holy Mass, Daily Reading of the Bible, and Monthly Confession. Daily Prayer During an apparition on January 23, 1986, Mary spoke these words emphasizing the importance of prayer, "Again I call you to prayer with the heart. If you pray with the heart, dear children, the ice of your brothers will melt and every barrier shall disappear. Conversion will be easy for all who desire to accept it. That is the gift which by prayer you must obtain for your neighbour.” Our Lady calls us to pray to the Lord daily, especially by meditating on the mysteries of his life through the Rosary. Fasting We have learned from Mary of Medjugorje that "the one who fasts is not afraid of evil." Fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays using only bread and water is described as the ultimate form of physical and spiritual sacrifice. She states that this practice helps ward off evil, achieve inner freedom, deepen prayer from the heart, and even stop wars. Holy Mass Mary reminds us to treat the Holy Mass with the utmost reverence and respect. She asks that the Mass be treated as the most exalted and powerful act of prayer and the focal point of the day. She warns against attending out of mere routine, asking instead for conscious, joyful participation filled with love. She also calls churches God's palace and urges silent preparation before Mass begins and reminds believers that Jesus offers profound personal graces and self-surrender during the Eucharistic sacrifice. The Bible Mary has explicitly asked families to read from Sacred Scripture daily and to place the Holy Bible in a prominent and visible spot in the home. Regular scriptural reading acts as an encouragement to personal conversion and guards against the strong influence of temptation and darkness. Scripture points back to her Son, Jesus, helping Him reign in the hearts of the faithful and bringing true joy; Mary urges believers to reflect deeply on the Bible every day to nurture their spiritual lives and deepen their wisdom in God. Confession Our Lady of Medjugorje emphasizes confession as an essential stone for spiritual peace, calling for monthly confession as a specific remedy for the spiritual crisis in the West. She teaches that the sacrament brings inner healing, restores grace, and transforms the individual rather than just clearing a record. On November 7, 1983 she boldly pronounced: “Do not go to Confession through habit, to remain the same after it. No, it is not good. Confession should give an impulse to your faith. It should stimulate you and bring you closer to Jesus. If Confession does not mean anything for you, really, you will be converted with great difficulty.” Whether or not one believes in the actuality of these apparitions, we can be sure that if the Church committed herself to practicing these five habits, the Lord would be pleased. Our Lady, Queen of Peace has come to bring many souls to her Son through these powerful weapons. By armoring ourselves daily with prayer, fasting, the Eucharist, the Sacred Word, and repentance, we may be well armed to fight the good fight against Satan.
